Leandro Manzo: Mar de Mares
November 10 - January 28
LaCa Projects debuts Mar de Mares, a solo exhibition featuring Argentinian artist, Leandro Manzo. In his second solo show at LaCa Projects, Manzo compiles a diverse body of work embodying erotic, natural and spiritual themes.
Mar de Mares demonstrates the enormous breadth and depth of Manzo’s work, which spans more than 30 years. Moreover, the range of genres—from vibrant landscapes and portraits to imagined black and white images—is testament to his versatility as a figurative expressionist artist.
Strike a Match to Hear My Sound
February 2 - April 7
LaCa Projects proudly presents Strike a Match to Hear My Sound, a new body of work by Cristina Toro that addresses natural and supernatural phenomena related to fire and light. The inspiration for these works began in Toro’s kitchen, where she experienced the phenomenon of luminous plasma causing ionization of air particles and creating a glowing light, or Saint Elmo’s Fire. This exhibition shares a number of examples related to energy and luminosity: ritual bonfires, polaroids, candles inside of kettles, phosphorescence, human energy fields, and the various properties of light, real and imagined, that come from the sun and the moon in relationship to one’s body.
CONTEXT Miami - www.contextnyfair.com
November 29 - December 4, 2016
LaCa Projects is proud to participate in CONTEXT Art Miami 2016, sister fair to Art Miami and running during Art Basel Miami week in December. Dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career artists, CONTEXT was launched in 2012 and offers an open atmosphere, creating a meaningful dialogue between artists, galleries and collectors while providing the ultimate platform for the presentation of mid-career, emergent and cutting-edge talent.
LaCa artists featured will include Juan Dolhare (Argentina), Carlos Estévez (Cuba), and Santiago Quesnel (Argentina).
Adjacent to the gallery are three spacious studios, where Latin American artists rent studio space on a monthly basis. LaCa’s studio artists interact with one another, provide artistic programs and access to the broader community, and enjoy a number of resources, including heightened exposure for their work. This creates an environment of inclusivity and direct access to artists and artistic conversations—an opportunity that is often lost in a traditional gallery setting. LaCa’s studio artists are considered partners in LaCa’s vision, and bring a strong sense of community and artistic energy to the gallery.
